Jan 18th, 2010 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing, Tips and Information
iki spike for killing fish

How do you kill a Snapper effectively? There shape means you cannot hit it on the head with a “fish donger”. We found this to be an issue when we caught our first Snapper. Luckily we were semi prepared with an iki spike. What is an iki spike? Well the best way to describe it [...]

Location: Raumati Beach, Raumati. To get there take Raumati Road from [...]

2 Kahawai and a Gurnard, when the deeper water ain’t working try shallower.

Jan 14th, 2010 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing, Tips and Information

We went fishing on Saturday at Paraparaumu and although there was a nice southerly blowing through we still managed to get out. Launching the Zodiac from the beach can cause some issues even with the smaller wave – we don’t have a front cover on our boat to keep the water from splashing over the [...]

Dec 30th, 2009 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing, Tips and Information

Though we all know there are plenty of sharks out in Kapiti and i would hate to see people move away from the beach however my brother went out surfing at Raumati South at the Esplande and a good size Shark finned beside him. Obviously he went straight in however this was only at waist [...]

Looking back towards Pukerua Bay

We went out fishing yesterday at Pukerua Bay as the weather was very calm and sun shinning. We haven’t had great luck in the past with Pukerua Bay mainly catching lots of small undersized fish, however this time we were equip with our new Garmin 300c Fish Finder. We were quite excited to see the [...]

2 Snapper! along the Beach – Fishing

First Snapper this Summer

First Snapper this Summer

We went out yesterday at midday in near perfect conditions. The water was a couple of degrees warmer than a couple of weeks ago and there was a lot of bird activity from Paraparaumu Beach through to Raumati Beach. Alot of this was in the shallow water, but great sign to see so many bait fish and large schools of Kahawai… we all know with large schools of Kahawai come larger fish. We decided to head out front of the Kapiti Boat club again at depth of 24m. With the tide heading out we drifted south towards Raumati Beach.

garmin 300 c

garmin 300 cWell we just brought a Garmin 300 c fish finder, after our cheap one died last year, and so we took it out for a test the other weekend. We only caught a few Kahawai and a barracuda plus my brother got into something very large which snapped his line…
