Fishing – How to Kill a Fish – Snapper

Feb 18th, 2011 | By korin | Category: Fish How To, Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing, Tips and Information

How do you kill a Snapper effectively? Their shape means you cannot hit it on the head with a “fish donger”. We found this to be an issue when we caught our first Snapper. Luckily we were semi prepared with an iki spike. What is an iki spike? Well the best way to describe it [...]

Snapper Rigs

Snapper Rigs?
Just thought i would start a discussion about what people are using rig wise when targeting snapper.
When I’m out in the boat i like to have two rods out. With one I’m targeting the larger fish and the other is a lighter set up that i use to target a broader range of fish [...]

THE SHERPPA CURSE

We went out fishing yesterday at Pukerua Bay as the weather was very calm and sun shinning. We haven’t had great luck in the past with Pukerua Bay mainly catching lots of small undersized fish, however this time we were equip with our new Garmin 300c Fish Finder. We were quite excited to see the [...]

2 Snapper! along the Beach – Fishing

Dec 18th, 2009 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing, Tips and Information

First Snapper this Summer

We went out yesterday at midday in near perfect conditions. The water was a couple of degrees warmer than a couple of weeks ago and there was a lot of bird activity from Paraparaumu Beach through to Raumati Beach. Alot of this was in the shallow water, but great sign to see so many bait fish and large schools of Kahawai… we all know with large schools of Kahawai come larger fish. We decided to head out front of the Kapiti Boat club again at depth of 24m. With the tide heading out we drifted south towards Raumati Beach.

Memorys made!

Our 2008/ 2009 summer season! As the snapper and kingfish migrate to warmer waters the XOS blue cod, terakihi and groper move in with still the chance of the odd kingi or snapper from the deeper spots. After catching over 25 kingfish up to 20kg this season and releasing all but 3, and my boat [...]

Quick update

Apr 30th, 2009 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing

We went out fishing a week or so back and managed to get 1 Snapper, 4 Kahawai, 1 Baracudda, 1 Gurnard, a few smaller Sharks and a couple of undersized blue cod – unfortunately I forgot the camera. It’s been a bit tough over the last week or so to get out due to the [...]

Pukerua Bay Snapper Fishing

Apr 16th, 2009 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing

I have been recently told the best way to catch Snapper at Pukerua Bay is just of the reef next to the highway. You find where the reef ends then drop your burley down and try and attract the fish away from the reef. I have been told it doesn’t have to be deep either [...]

Snapper are still here!

Apr 10th, 2009 | By korin | Category: Fishing Blogs and Logs, Sea Fishing

My brother with the 7kg Snapper caught as the sun was setting. As you can see behind him is the Kapiti Boat Club. This was released

We went out today and caught 4 Snapper, sized between 4kg – 7kg, drifting between Kapiti Boat Club and Raumati Beach, at a depth somewhere between 20 – 30m. We also caught another 2 pan size Snapper. We released 3 of the 4 large Snapper due to the fact they were just to large for us to keep, also they were older Snapper ideal for breeding stock. I caught two of the four large Snapper using the Snapper rig with a Large piece of Squid. My brother caught his two large Snappers on the Snapper rig using fresh Mackerel.
